Basically and briefly we would say that you should bring what you would take on a week-long vacation or trip, but cut in half to be packed (since we will be biking all day, you won’t need many clothes), double the sports stuff (basically, this is an active, it will be a sporty week) and put your cycling wardrobe and accessories there. Our personal experience is that we cannot take so few clothes on such a one-week tour that we would not bring half of them back unused.
What is the must have: cycling clothing with 2-3 set. This usually means specially cycling bibs (for comfort), a cycling jersey, underwear and a wind- and waterproof cycling jacket, as well as shoes. It’s ideal if you bring cycling clothes, because they feel optimal on the bike and you will have the least problems with them (they ventilate well if you get wet, they dry quickly, they are ideal in all weather conditions, they have pockets, etc.). But if you don’t have and you don’t want to spend a lot on it, sporty clothes will also be good (short and long sports pants, that fit the body, layered sports clothes on top, jacket). Note that you should bring 2-3 sets in order to change them (if you get wet or you are not sure there will be a washing machine everywhere).
On spring (April, beginning of May) and late autumn (end of September, October) tours, colder, wetter days may still occur. In that case, pay extra attention to having a kit that can be used even in the cold (waterproof jacket, long pants, change shoes, etc.). In late spring, summer and early autumn, a short set and bibs are usually enough. We write about the weather here.
In addition to clothing, you also need cycling equipment: helmet, backpack, water bottle, sunscreen, phone, battery or charger, camera (small!), swimsuit (if the accommodation has a swimming pool and is fully charged). If you are touring with our cross bike, it does not have a luggage rack, so you should have a smaller backpack with you. You don’t need to carry a lot of stuff with you during the day (documents, camera, phone, change – if necessary).
Note that the socket connection in Italy is different than at home (the Italian socket is mostly used with 3 poles and two types of plugs), so if you think about it, get an adapter or two, but if you don’t bring one, it’s okay, because in most houses you can get it anywhere for 1-2 euros.
