Cycling in the Canary Islands in autumn, winter or early spring, when temperatures are still low at home, is always a special experience. Who wouldn’t enjoy the constant 20-25 degrees (sometimes 28-30) from November to April, the mostly dry and predictable weather, which is ideal for cycling. An extremely special place deserves an extremely special, exclusive tour! On the seven-day tour, we will ride the most beautiful hills of the island! Our accommodation will be in a four-star wellness hotel that meets all your needs, with breakfast, dinner, in double rooms.
The one-week tour is adjusted to flights.
The island has fantastic scenery, it’s a special place. The southern part is a barren rocky desert, there are hardly any trees, mostly cacti. The valleys are like a mix of Arizona and Texas. The northern part of the island is the opposite: everything is green, forests, gorgeous plants, much more built up. The quality of the roads is first class, the people are friendly and there are a lot of cyclists, which is why every car driver pays attention to them (and the rented car 🙂 The food is cheap and good, the infrastructure is great, so it’s an ideal place for cycling.
Travel
Both the outbound and return journeys are by plane. Airport and outbound transfers are by minibus.
Attention! Everyone must book their own flight tickets. There are flights from Budapest and Vienna on these days! The flight must be adjusted to the tour.

About the tour
The Canary Islands are a winter and early spring rulez place for cyclists. World and protour teams also come here to train. Gran Canaria is a unique island with fantastic scenery. The southern part of the island is a completely stone desert, there are no any trees, mostly cactuses. The rivers have carved out fantastic valleys, the whole place is like a mix of Arizona and Texas. The northern part of the island is the opposite: everything is green, forests, magnificent plants, much more built-up. The quality of the roads, especially near the ocean coast, is first-rate. The food is cheap and good, the infrastructure is great. However, cycling on the island, especially at the beginning of the season, when you are not at all prepared for what awaits you there, is not easy. The long and sometimes steep climbs can torture you. And in order to see a lot, the high altitudes also require a longer distance. You have to be properly prepared here!
Unlike Tenerife, the island offers not only climbs and descents, but also horizontal and gentler valley paths. (In Tenerife, all roads lead to Teide – Read our description!). Each day we will cover a relatively greater distance and level, which, however, is accompanied by unforgettable panoramas and views. Only come here if you are ready for what awaits you there!
Bicycle
On this tour, everyone participates either with a rented road bike or with their own bike (road). We can help with bike rental upon request! Outdoor rental is usually 120-250 euros, depending on the bike selected. If you bring your own bike, the condition is at least a 2*10 gear system.
Difficulty
The tours are very difficult (5/5), and can only be completed with an high athletic physique, if you have stamina, endurance and/or greater cycling experience.
(Info: What is there to know about the difficulty of the tours? Is the tour difficult for you?).

Day 1: Travel by plane.
Travel individually, arrival on the island, then transfer to the hotel. Since both Wizair and Ryanair arrive in the evening, there is no riding on this day.
On our first day of cycling we head towards Fataga to warm up, ride up to San Bartolomé on the GC-60 road, then down the GC-65 and Agüimes on the GC-550 to return to the sea. This road is the entrance to the interior of the island, the road to the peak, Pico de Las Nieves. Since it is the first day, we will not exaggerate the climbs, but we will still go up to San Bartolomé and from there down one of the most beautiful slopes on the island. The road is beautiful both up and down, and the 505 road is very attractive (you can also go without the detour).
Distance: 83 km, elevation gain: 1650 m. Difficulty: 4/5.
On our second day, we head straight for the top. We take a brilliant but difficult circuit to the highest point of the island, Pico de Las Nieves. Starting from the accommodation, we take the coastal road for a while (an undulating, up-and-down road), then we turn up to Soria in a beautiful and less steep valley. Soria is a beautiful climb, in breathtaking surroundings, by the way, the average gradient is 8%, but up to road 605 there are sections of 12-14%. To Ayacata, which is the “stop” before the top, it is easier, and then to Pico the climb is more long than difficult. The difficulty of the route is that you have to go uphill almost from the start, there are two long climbs, one 20km and one 16km, with 6-12%. We come down on the GC60 that we have already met.
Distance: 115 km, elevation gain: 2700 m.
Difficulty: 5/5.
The VoTT (Valley of The Tears) is the most famous and infamous climb in Gran Canaria.
It is famous far and wide, not by chance. On this day we visit the VoTT. We go along the coastal road to Mogán, then we rise to 650 meters, we descend almost to sea level and we penetrate the interior of the island through a beautiful valley. The VoTT starts from there. It is not for nothing that they call that 12km the Valley of Tears (12km, 960m level), it is quite difficult. Once we reach the top, we descend from Ayacata on the usual route.
Distance: 120 km, elevation gain: 3200 m.
Difficulty: 5/5.
Today we will ride one of the most beautiful serpentines and roads. We will start from Mogán and ride the Serenity serpentine of road 605 to Ayacata. From there we will descend on the VoTT and turn onto road 210, where we will do a loop and then descend towards the country. Distance: 125km, elevation gain: about 3400 m.
Difficulty: 5/5.
On this day we will take a look at the GC-200 coastal road.
Day 7: Flying home
Transfer to the airport.
Our accommodation will be in a four-star hotel, in double rooms. The accommodation has a swimming pool, wellness center, breakfast included in the price.
