About the tour
The bicycle path built on the former railway line of the millennium (then used by the Italian state railways) is one of the most exciting and beautiful European routes that can be cycled. The route is part of a larger European cycling tour, the Alps – Adriatic route, which goes from Salzburg to Grado (you can sign up for this route on this page!), but it can also stand alone. The three nights of the tour will be spent in accommodation in Krajnska Gora, Slovenia. From here we will hike in several directions.
The classic section, built on the millennium railway line, starts from Tarvisio in Italy and goes to Resiutta (about 46 km), but also includes the part from Krajnska Gora (18 km). A very high-quality cycle path has been built on the former railway line, replacing the rails and retaining the old railway tunnels, bridges and service infrastructure, so that cyclists really feel like they are on a railway line. It’s a great experience as you roll into the “stations” and relax with a coffee or lunch in one of the restaurants in the railway buildings.
There are many beautiful parts of the route, but the most enjoyable is at the end, where you cycle through several longer tunnels as the cycle path winds through high mountains.
Anyone who comes on this tour will leave with an experience of a lifetime.
Bicycle
We will ride on asphalt almost the entire way on this tour, so all types of bicycles are accepted.
Normal bike rental is provided while stocks last, so you don’t have to pay extra. Of course you can bring your own, and we’re happy to do that, but the bike we provide is well equipped and very comfortable. Read on to find out what kind of bike we provide and what to look out for if you bring your own!
It is also possible to rent an e-bike. Renting ebikes is not included in the price of the tour, but we offer them at a discount than if you rent them elsewhere). An ebike is a bicycle that is powered by an electric motor. It can be adjusted in several steps, so you can easily negotiate even the steepest climbs. The ebikes are very useful for people who don’t normally cycle much, or who don’t want to exert themselves because of their age or health. About eBike rental.
