Come with us to this beautiful Mediterranean island in the pre-season, when it’s still cold at home – spring is the time for a great road bike ride. Start the season with a great adventure ride! April is already the cycling season in Mallorca, the weather can be very good, so it’s ideal for cycling.

Mallorca

The island is not very big, but ideal for cycling. Its area (3700 km2) is the territory of a smaller Hungarian county (Zala, Tolna), 70 km diagonally which is just enough for good and varied cycling. In autumn and early spring, many people cycle there and this is strongly supported by excellent infrastructure and services. The weather is good all year round: after summer, in early autumn, when the season is over on the mainland, or in early spring, when it is still cold there, you can cycle in Mallorca in short sets. The weather in late September and early October is on average around 25 degrees, but it can be 30 and 20 degrees. Our accommodation will be in a 4-star wellness hotel with breakfast in double rooms.

The one-week tour is adjusted to flights.

Travel

The departure and arrival both are by plane. Airport and transfers are by minibus.
Attention! Everyone has to book their own flight tickets. Ryanair (and Wizz) also fly from Budapest, Ryanair has several flights from Vienna daily! The flight must be adjusted to the time of the tour. But you can travel before and on the days after. Ryanair operates 4 flights a day from Vienna. If you are coming from Vienna (the tour guide is from there), we will take you to the Vienna airport by transfer.

Ideal flight (tour guide goes with this): Vienna – Pálma, April 6, 2025 10.55 (Fr488), return Pálma – Budapest, April 12, 14.10. (FR489). The trip
we will discuss this after you apply. The transfer from Vienna is included in the price. In the case of flights that are close to each other, we will meet you at the airport.

It is worth registering for the Tour and booking your flight and bike as soon as possible, because the period is very popular, and we need to make arrangements for the transfer!

Mallorca

About the tour

The tour covers the most famous and beautiful Mallorcan routes, such as Sa Calobra, Cap de Formentor or Randa and of course routes in the Tramuntana mountains (5 rounds). See details on the program tab.

What you can prepare for: most of the rides will be in the Tramuntata mountains in the western part of the island, where there are longer and more difficult climbs. The highest point of the island that we can reach by bicycle is 880m, so you are not cycling in the Alps, but the climbs are difficult and sometimes quite long (Puig Major is 14km long, with an elevation difference of almost 1000m).

The road network is relatively frequent, the interior of the island is criss-crossed by narrow, low-traffic roads under gardens, this is rarer in the mountains. Almost everywhere on the main roads an extra lane of 1.5 to 2 meters has been created for bicycles. Many bars, pubs and rest areas are available, everywhere you can find a refreshment point.

Cyclists are very protected 1.5-meter and warning signs for bicyclists have been posted in many places. Cars are careful which is of course no wonder, since there are a lot of people riding bikes. They certainly won’t honk at you here.

Most of the tours go from hotel to hotel, but once we go by minibus.

Mallorca

Bicycle

Everyone in this tour with a rented road bike (or with their own road bike). We will help you rent a bike, after applying and paying, we will provide you with the contact information of external partners! Rental usually costs 100-250 euros for 5-6 days, depending on the selected bike. Bicycles can be rented locally (the hotel also has several rental options in the area), but you can also rent them individually. If you rent individually, the delivery of the bike and its transportation on the island are your own responsibility! If you bring your own bike, the fares usually 100 – 140 euros there and back for a suitcase with a bike.

Difficulty

The tours are difficult (4/5, 5/5) and can only be completed with an average athletic physique if you have more bike experience. (Info: What is there to know about the difficulty of the tours? Is the tour difficult for you?).

Day 1: Travel by plane.

Individual travel by plane, arrival on the island, then transfer to the hotel. Since both Wizair and Ryanair arrive (from Budapest or Vienna) so that we can occupy the accommodation in the afternoon/evening, there is no riding on this day yet.

2

Day 2: Cap de Formentor and La Victoria

We put on our bikes on our first cycling day, so we starting cycling later, but we do a shorter trip that day. Our destination is one of the most beautiful roads, the most iconic point, the Formentor peninsula. This is the northernmost point of the island, a narrow peninsula-sized extension of the Tramuntana mountains. At the end of the road is a lighthouse. The road will not be complicated, because we are also staying in the north, so we find ourselves on the Formentor peninsula almost as soon as we leave the hotel. About 20 km the peninsula from its “entrance”, which starts with a big climb (coll de sa Creueta – 3.3km, 200m), then after an enjoyable descent, the road rises and undulates, there are shorter harder parts, several hundreds of meters level, the road constantly winds between the rocks. Then at the very end you will see the lighthouse, which is quite above the sea with a nice view. On the way back, we follow the same road, but in the second part we tour to the coast, towards Alcúdia and La Victoria. Distance: 80 km, difference in level: 1400 m. Difficulty: 3/5

3

Day 3: Sa Calobra

On this day we visit the most famous climb in Mallorca. Sa Calobra is a 10km asphalt snake, Mallorca’s most famous serpentine. The climb itself is a “jump” from the main road, down to the sea, and then back up approx. 680 m. So it’s a reverse climb, meaning you start with a slope, then you have to cycle up where you went down. But you also have to cycle to Sa Calobra. On the way there we start towards the Coll de Femina from the accommodation, and on the way back we come via the Coll de Batalla.

Distance: 105 km, elevation: 2000 m. Difficulty: 5/5.

4

Day 4: Randa and the Cura kolsotor

On our third day we planned a little less level. The Randa monastery is located inland (the central part of the island). The monastery was built on a 535 m high hill on the island’s only plateau, clearly visible from the surrounding area. The reason we come here is to see the “inner” mainland part of the island itself and the panorama with the serpentine leading to the monastery. The road climbs a total of about 300 m over the 4.8 km, with an average grade of 5.5%. The highest point will be 535 m. It is very pleasant to ride, there are many hairpin and the view is phenomenal! And when you reach the top, you can see the whole island! We make our way there on a deserted road under gardens with little traffic. There won’t be many levels on the road, half of all levels are uphill to the monastery.

Distance: 120 km, elevation: 1000 m. Difficulty: 3/5.

5

Day 5: Sóller loop, Puig Major

On this day we will climb several passes, essentially hiking to the central part of the Tramuntana mountains, where we will go through beautiful valleys, great towns, beautiful peaks and cool, not so high climbs. We will start from the accommodation, our main goal is the longest climb in Mallorca, Puig Major, which is also the highest point on the island accessible by bike (875m). There will be several climbs on the way, with climbs of 3-500 meters. After the city of Inca, there is the Coll de sa Batalla (8 km 400 level – 5%), then between Bunyola and Sóller there is the Coll de Sóller, which is a very beautiful and pleasant switchback climb, then comes the Puig Major (13.6km, 787m level) and finally Femenia.

Distance: 125 km, elevation: 2600 m. Difficulty: 5/5.

6

Day 6: Andratx loop and the SW coast

Today we ride on one of the most beautiful roads, on the coast. We go for a round in the SW Tramuntana, and then come back along the coast. We go by car to the starting point (Bunyola or Valldemossa), then drive south to reach the town of Andratx in the mountains, which will be our return point. On this route, we also climb 3-4 smaller passes, each with levels of 2-300 m. The way back is full of attractions, the main thing is the beautiful landscape by the sea. We touch on the most beautiful coastal cities. Banyalbufar, Estellencs and Valdemossa, which is one of the most beautiful towns in Mallorca! And at the end we climb an incredibly beautiful serpentine to the beach!

Distance: 92 km, elevation: 2300 m. Difficulty: 5/5.

7

Day 7: Flying home

Transfer to the airport.

We will be staying in a four-star hotel, in double rooms. The accommodation has a swimming pool, wellness, and breakfast is included in the price.
